General Information

The City of Cambridge is arguably one of the most beautiful in the UK, famous throughout the world for its University and Colleges. It retains the atmosphere of a mediaeval town, and is stocked with excellent shops, bars, pubs and restaurants, and of course it is also the birthplace of some of the most recent scientific advances.

The meeting will take place at the West Road Concert Hall, which is conveniently situated close to the famous Cambridge Backs and King’s College.  The Concert Hall is a 10-15 minute taxi journey from Cambridge railway station.

Getting There

View a map of how to find the West Road Concert Hall.
You can also download a PDF version of this map (35kb).

By train

Trains run regularly to Cambridge from both London King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street. If you are coming from the North, it is advisable to change at Peterborough. West Road is a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride from the railway station.

Please note that due to unforeseen engineering works there will be no trains running from London to Cambridge until 14:00 on Sunday 26 June and that a bus service will run from London Liverpool Street instead.

By car

Please see following direction, but note that car travel to the meeting is not advised as parking in Cambridge is extremely difficult.  Please note that there is no parking at the venue.

If you are staying in Halls, please note that Murray Edwards Hall does offer free parking for residents, but there is no parking at Selwyn College.

To get to the West Road Concert Hall from Junction 12 of the M11

  • Drive for approx 1.5 miles into Cambridge (Barton Road)
  • Turn left opposite Hat & Feathers pub (Grange Road)
  • Turn 3rd right opposite Rugby Club (West Road)
  • The Hall is half way along the right hand side of West Road.

Park and Ride

Cambridgeshire County Council runs a ‘Park & Ride’ service from Madingley Road, just off Junction 13 of the M11 to the West of Cambridge. Take the Citi 4 bus (which runs from Monday to Friday) and alight at the stop entitled ‘West Road University Library’, which is approximately 50 metres from the Concert Hall. For more information visit the County Council's Park and Ride listings.

As mentioned above there is no parking at the West Road Concert Hall itself or at Selwyn College. Murray Edwards Hall does offer free parking for residents.

Some local parking options are as follows:

  • approximately 50 Pay & Display spaces are available on West Road immediately opposite the Hall;
  • the nearest unregulated streets are Herschel, Adams and Cranmer Roads;
  • a map of Council operated car parks can be found on the web here;
  • there is a Park and Ride Service at Madingley – see above.

By air

The closest airport offering scheduled flights is Stansted, which is 30 miles from Cambridge. A regular bus service and a direct train service run from Stansted to the city.

Other airports such as London Heathrow and Gatwick are also relatively easily reached by public transport via London.
