Abstract:
Structure your abstract as follows:
- Background and objectives
- Methods
- Results in sufficient detail to support conclusion
- Conclusion
(It is not necessary to enter these headings in
your abstract)
Use standard abbreviations where appropriate. Place special or
unusual abbreviations in brackets after the full word the first
time it appears. Scientific characters should be written out in
plain text (eg alpha, beta, pi). Abstracts will be reproduced exactly
as submitted so please check carefully for typing errors.
Check that the abstract text is not longer than 350 words.
The form must be completed using plain text. You
can type directly into the form, or cut and paste text from
a plain text file. You may be able to cut and paste directly
from your wordprocessor, but please heed the warning below. Whichever
method you use, avoid special characters and formats (eg alpha,
beta, pi, micron, symbols, formulae with subscripts and superscripts
etc.) - spell these out in words. Check for unwanted
end-of-line breaks.
Do NOT use hard returns at the end of lines except to start a new
paragraph. Text will automatically wrap to the next line as necessary.
WARNING: If you cut and paste directly from your
word processor, the result may contain special characters which,
although displaying correctly on your screen, are likely to be lost
or corrupted when transferred via the internet. For safety, transfer
the text (by cut and paste or via Export/SaveAs Text Only) to a
simple text editor (eg Notepad). Now copy and paste the text into
the form and check again as above.
Tables/figures:
If you need to add a table or figure to your abstract please email it to janet@janet-crompton.com once you have completed the abstract form. Please email the entire abstract, including title and authors, together with the table/figure.
Other details:
Complete the fields to indicate whether you wish to give an oral
or poster presentation and please indicate if you are an invited
speaker.
Check the completed form carefully. Then press Submit.
Confirmation of the details you have submitted will appear on the
screen. Print this out as your own record. If any characters appear
to have become corrupted, please fax a copy of the printout marked
up with any corrections to Janet Crompton at +44 (0)1453
548919.
Authors will be contacted at the end of March 2011.
Submitting more than one abstract?
If you assemble all the abstract details before you start
to complete the form, it is possible to submit each abstract in
turn without having to retype your name and address details. Submit
the first abstract; when this is acknowledged, use the back button
to return to the form, which will normally still display the details
you have just submitted. Substitute the details of the next abstract
and submit again.
