Arthritis Research Campaign

studentships 2008
The Arthritis Research Campaign is pleased to announce the award
of the following prestigious PhD studentships to enable outstanding
young science graduates to embark on a research career in rheumatology.
The awards will be tenable for three years from 1st October 2008
with a tax-free stipend currently of £18,754 (in London) and
£16,748 (outside London) in the first year, with annual increases
thereafter, and will include UK tuition fees.
Applications are invited from candidates who hold or expect to
obtain a First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in a relevant
subject.

Regenerative Medicine, Edinburgh University

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant interdisciplinary
research project aimed at taking cell-based therapies from the “bench
to bedside”. The UK Stem Cell Foundation, Medical Research
Council, Scottish Enterprise and the Chief Scientist Office are
co-funding this important research effort within the MRC Centre
for Regenerative Medicine.
The project will combine existing and evolving protocols for the
directed differentiation of adult stem cells with novel therapeutic
carrier/scaffold technologies. A team of scientists will undertake
this work, which will include stem cell biology, scaffold manufacture
and slow drug release techniques and translation to clinical GMP
standards.
The project runs over a period of two years and there are 3 Research
Technician positions and 3 Post Doctoral Research Fellow positions
available across the sub-groups within the programme of research.
i) In vitro Stem Cell culture
