Professor Cyrus Cooper wins the Pierre Delmas Award for research into osteoporosis at the IOF/ESCEO in Seville

At the World Congress on Osteoporosis in Seville, Spain, Professor Cyrus Cooper was selected as the winner of the Pierre Delmas Award for research into osteoporosis. This is the premier research award presented by IOF and ESCEO to honour an individual academic who has contributed significantly to the field of osteoporosis and musculoskeletal science, through original and outstanding scientific contributions.

Professor Juliet Compston awarded OBE in New Year’s Honours

Professor Juliet Compston, Emeritus Professor of Bone Medicine at the University of Cambridge was awarded as a Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the Treatment of Osteoporosis.

Professor Compston, a former BRS president, responded that "it was a lovely surprise to get this award and I would like to acknowledge the many colleagues and patients who have contributed to my research over the years.  I’m particularly pleased that osteoporosis is featured in the citation, since it deserves a higher profile than it currently possesses and there is enormous scope for improving the treatment of affected people".

Maureen Owen 1927-2011

It is very sad to report that Maureen Owen, a pioneering researcher and leader in the field of bone biology, died peacefully in Oxford aged 83 on 5th April 2011. Maureen was an Honorary Member of the Bone Research Society and was an extraordinary mentor to many.
