InvitationIt is our pleasure to invite you to attend the 2005 annual meeting of the Bone and Tooth Society in Birmingham. The meeting will be held in the University Centre on the leafy Edgbaston Campus at the University of Birmingham. As you will see, our keynote speakers will come from a variety of disciplines and are of international standing. We hope you will find their presentations enlightening and informative. There will be plenary lectures as well as symposia on:
There will be also be a Science/Clinical overlap session looking at nutrition and bone and a Clinical Session looking at new treatments for bone disease. We have kept the meeting to two days in an effort to reduce the cost of attending. In addition to this, we are delighted to offer a number of FREE - yes FREE!!! - Scholarships to enable young scientists to attend the meeting at no cost at all! These will be available to those aged 35 or less and will be based on abstract submissions, so get writing! In addition to this, there are the usual Bone and Tooth Society Young Investigator Awards, Registrar Prizes and Travel Bursaries, so there are plenty of funding options for young researchers. The programme will allow plenty of opportunity for informal discussion and for poster viewing. This is a residential conference with nearby Halls of Residence providing good value accommodation. The Bone and Tooth Society annual dinner will be held at the world famous Birmingham Botanical Gardens. We hope that you will come and join us for what promises to be an exciting meeting. Dr Mark Cooper, Local Organiser Call for abstracts and clinical casesThe deadline for abstracts was 18 February 2005 and the abstract submission is now closed. Abstracts will be published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. The final programme will be available on the Bone and Tooth Society web site from April 2005. AwardsA number of New Investigator Awards and Registrar Prizes will be given to eligible authors. Please indicate on the abstract form if you are eligible and would like to be considered for one of these prizes. The above awards will be decided at the meeting based on the oral and poster presentations. In addition, the Bone and Tooth Society is delighted to make awards to the following, based on the review panel's assessment of their abstract. The Awards will be presented during the Awards Ceremony at 12.30 on Tuesday 5 July. This is a residential conference and the meeting packages include bed and breakfast accommodation in Halls of Residence. We will be using Chamberlain Hall, which offers en suite and standard accommodation and is a short walk across landscaped grounds to the main Campus and its meeting rooms. Please bring this receipt with you to the conference. CancellationCancellations will be accepted in writing until 29 April 2005. Until that time a refund of 70% of the registration fee will be made. The Bone and Tooth Society Annual Dinner will take place at the Birmingham
Botanical Gardens, a historic venue, opened in 1832. This will be
a 4-course dinner with wine, preceded by a reception and transport

Information for exhibitors [PDF] General InformationVenueThe meeting will take place in the Avon Room, University Centre, University of Birmingham, A38 Bristol Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 2TT. TravelBy planeBirmingham is serviced by Birmingham International Airport. The airport is used by many airlines, but the two main budget ones are Flybe and Ryanair. Flybe has many direct flights to Birmingham including those from Belfast, Brussels, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Milan and Paris. Ryanair has direct flights from Dublin and Barcelona to Birmingham. Their main hub however is London Stansted which is connected to many cities throughout Europe. By trainThe nearest station is "University". From the station follow the signs to the meeting, which is in the Avon Room, University Centre. It is a 5-10 minute walk. Pre-registered delegates will receive a map of the campus and this is also available online at http://www.location.bham.ac.uk/edgbaston.pdf. Network Rail provides nation-wide rail timetable information through their website and national timetable. There are four rail operators which have services to Birmingham: Central Trains, Virgin Trains, Silverlink Train Services and Chiltern Railways. Train journeys that terminate at Birmingham New Street station are probably more convenient than those stopping at Birmingham International station. A direct journey from London Euston station to Birmingham New Street station is typically 90-120 minutes. By coachCoach services from many cities and airports in the UK are operated by National Express. In Birmingham, these services terminate at Digbeth coach station. A budget coach service, with very cheap tickets, has been launched in the UK called MegaBus. They are already operating services from London to Birmingham and are expanding rapidly, so look out for other cities with connections to Birmingham. Another budget service, EasyBus, is due to be launched in 2004, and are already advertising fares from London to Birmingham for £1. National Express have responded to
this competition by launching their own budget fares called funfares. By carBirmingham is centrally located to the M1, the M5, the M6 and the M40. Traffic snarls around Birmingham however, are common. Approaching from the NW or SE along the M6, leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38 (M). At the end of the motorway keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through three underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road. The University is on your right two and a half miles from the City centre. Approaching from the M42 North, leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above. Approaching from the SW, leave the M5 at Junction 4 (signposted Birmingham SW) to join the A38. The University is on the left of the A38 Bristol Road approximately eight miles from the motorway. The approach to the University through the southern suburbs can be confusing. From the M40, it is easier to turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1, heading north on the A38 Bristol Road. The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway. Note: the directions above do not include the new M6 Toll Road around Birmingham which opened in December 2003. with access to the South Car Park being via the East Gate. Both the
